PHNOM PENH (8 March 2010) – A last gasp winner from Thong Uodom gave National Defense Ministry FC their first silverware of the season when they beat Phnom Penh Crown FC 3-2 in a pulsating final of the Hun Sen Cup that was played at the National Olympic Stadium.
In the match that was attended by more than 15,000 fans, it was National Defense who took the game to their better-known counterparts and the early pressure paid off when Sin Dalin struck home to give them the lead. But with experience on their side, Phnom Penh stood their ground and was awarded with the equalizer off Heng Sokly in the 39th minute for the score to stand at 1-1 at the half. Chhin Chhoeurn then restored the lead for National Defense with the second goal on 65 minute before Chan Rithy gave Phnom Penh a lifeline with the second equalizer in the 89th minute of play. And just when the game seems to head for extra-time, a superb opportunistic strike from Thong Oudom deep in injury time gave National Defense the win and also the coveted trophy. |
