HANOI (15 Feb 2012) – Newcomer Saigon FC moved up to second in the Vietnam Super League after dumping former champions SHB Da Nang 2-1 at the Thong Nhat Stadium. The win allowed Saigon to not only occupy the spot behind current league leaders Hanoi T&T, but also ensured that they remained unbeaten after five matches.
Elsewhere, Dong Thap earned a well-deserved 3-1 home win over Navibank Saigon at the Cao Lanh Stadium while hosts Khanh Hoa beat visitors Kien Giang 1-0 at Nha Trang Stadium.
2010 V-League champions Hanoi T&T beat Thanh Hoa 3-2 at the Hang Day Stadium to maintain their position at the top of the 2012 Vietnam Super League standings as 2003-2004 champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai defeated Hanoi FC 2-1 at the Pleiku Stadium.
Ninh Binh beat Hai Phong 2-0 at home while Binh Duong were held scoreless by defending champions Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) at the Go Dau Stadium.
“Both teams had their chances but I felt that our chances were clearer. But fortune did not smile on us,” said SLNA chief coach Nguyen Huu Thang.
