BANGKOK (23 Aug 2011) – Defending champions Muang Thong United moved up to second in the Thai Premier League (TPL) 2011 when their 3-1 victory away over TOT FC saw them taking advantage of the slip ups from their nearest rivals.
Current league leaders Buriram PEA were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Pattaya United at the I-Mobile stadium while Chonburi FC suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at TTM Phichit.
With Muang Thong picking up the full points, they have now taken over the second spot from Chonburi, who slipped down to third, while Buriram remained on top of the table with a six-point advantage.
Muang Thong United did not flinch playing on the road at the TOT Stadium when they upped the ante after a scoreless first half, to score two goals in three minutes – Teerasil Dangda (47th minute) and Piyapol Buntao (50th minute).
Kone Mohamed pulled a goal back for TOT in the 58th minute before Christian Kouakou wrapped up the three points for the visitors on 76 minutes.
Chonburi lost the second spot at the table when Lee Kwang Jae scored the only goal in the game in the 33rd minute to give the full points to TTM.
Elsewhere, Army United went down at home 1-0 to Thai Port FC at the Army Stadium, while Siam Navy FC came back from one goal down to beat bottom-placed Khon Kaen FC 2-1 at the Navy Sattahip Stadium.
Si Sa Ket FC were held to a goalless draw against Chiang Rai United as Osotspa edged Bangkok Glass 1-0 at the Saraburi Stadium.
SCG Samut Songkhram earned a point against Insee Police United following their 1-1 draw.
