HAI PHONG (9 August 2025) – Hosts Vietnam and four-time winners Thailand both confirmed their progress to the semi-finals of the ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ 2025 from Group A on Saturday with comfortable wins over Indonesia and Cambodia respectively.
Janista Jinantuya scored a hat-trick and Madison Casteen netted twice as Thailand continued their perfect start with a 7-0 thrashing of Cambodia at Lạch Tray Stadium while Vietnam also handed Indonesia a 7-0 loss to advance.
The results mean Vietnam and Thailand will face off for top spot when they meet in the final round of group matches on Tuesday while Indonesia and Cambodia have been eliminated with one round of games remaining.
It took Thailand 38 minutes to break Cambodia’s resistance, Casteen putting her side in front when she latched onto Pichayatida Manowwang’s pass from the right to stroke her shot into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later the Thais doubled their lead, Janista surging down the left channel and crashing an unstoppable right-foot shot beyond Chen Soveat. Seconds before the interval Casteen pounced on another error by the Cambodian defence to score her second.
Janista slammed in the fourth from a low cross by substitute Pattaranan Aupachai in the second minute of the second half and Thawanrat Promthongmee rolled in the fifth with 20 minutes remaining following Pluemjai Sontisawat’s incisive through ball from deep.
Ploychompoo Somnuek bent her free-kick over the wall and into the top corner to continue the rout in the 81st minute and Janista completed her hat-trick in the final minute after Pattaranan’s attempt had come back off the post.
Vietnam registered their win with Phạm Hải Yến scoring twice as Nguyễn Thị Bích Thùy, Hoàng Thị Loan, Ngân Thị Vạn Sự, Trần Thị Thu Thảo and Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Ngân also found the target for Mai Đức Chung’s side.
Bích Thùy put the Vietnamese in front in the 24th minute when Laita Roati was unable to push her shot from 12 yards to safety and four minutes later the hosts doubled the lead through Hoàng Thị Loan.
Vietnam added to their tally in the 69th minute as Vạn Sự’s corner was nodded in by Hải Yến and the fourth came soon after, Vạn Sự driving down the left before beating Laita at her near post.
Thu Thảo hit Vietnam’s fifth with nine minutes remaining when she beat Laita to her left after the ball landed in her path following Hải Yến’s initial shot, which was blocked by the Indonesia defence.
Hải Yến registered her second of the evening in the 86th minute with a calm finish from eight yards out and Tuyết Ngân curled the seventh into the top corner with a minute to go.
