SINGAPORE (14 May 2026) – Buriram United FC will take on Selangor FC in the 2025/26 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ final after the defending champions needed extra time to secure a dramatic 4-3 aggregate win over Johor Darul Ta’zim FC on Wednesday and book their place in the tournament showpiece.
The Thai League 1 champions, who led 3-1 after the first leg, went two goals down in regulation time after strikes by Bérgson da Silva and Marcos Guilherme, but Kingsley Schindler scored in the 98th minute to take Mark Jackson’s side into the two-legged decider on May 20 and May 27.
Selangor had no such issues at Thiên Trường Stadium in Ninh Binh as Chrigor Moraes scored twice to secure a 2-0 win for the Red Giants over Nam Dinh FC that sealed a 4-1 aggregate victory, with the Brazilian scoring all four of his teams goals across both legs.
“I’m very happy for these two goals but more important is we are in the final,” said Shopee Star of the Match Chrigor. “We are in the final because we worked too much in the training every week, we played many, many, many games and we deserve to be in the final.”
Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Selangor extended their advantage five minutes from the end of the first half when Chrigor hit his third goal of the semi-final, this time from the penalty spot.
Referee Koji Takashi was called to the pitch-side monitor after a tussle in the six-yard box involving Mitchell Dijks and Mohammad Abualnadi, with the Japanese official eventually pointing to the spot. Chrigor made no mistake, smashing his penalty home.
The 25-year-old Brazilian then confirmed his side’s progress with his second on the night, netting on the break in the 90th minute to set up a final against the defending champions.
Buriram United were second-best for much of regulation time in their blockbuster clash with JDT as Bérgson, back in the starting line-up after missing the first leg through injury, scored from the spot nine minutes into first-half stoppage time after Neil Etheridge’s foul.
Guilherme levelled the scores on aggregate with 28 minutes remaining when he beat the Buriram United goalkeeper from the tightest of angles, silencing the boisterous Buriram United fans in the process.
But eight minutes into the first period of extra-time, the champions struck, Goran Čaušić sliding the ball into the path of Schindler and the Ghanaian winger smashed his right-foot shot into the roof of the net.
Buriram United’s task was made all the more difficult when Guilherme Bissoli, who scored twice in the first leg, was sent off for a second bookable offence four minutes later while Čaušić was dismissed in the 115th minute due to an off-the-ball clash. Both will miss the first leg of the final.
That left Buriram United to play out the remaining time with nine men but Jackson’s side held on as Etheridge made a dramatic game-winning save in the dying seconds to deny Oscar Arribas.
Buriram United will travel to face Selangor in the first leg of the Shopee Cup™ final on May 20 before hosting Kim Pan-gon’s Malaysia Super League outfit seven days later in the second leg of the tournament decider.
