CHONBURI (14 December 2025) – The Philippines denied host Thailand a place in the final of the Women’s Football event at the SEA Games 2025 as Vietnam made it all too easy against Indonesia in the two semifinal matches played earlier this evening in Chonburi.
At the Chonburi Stadium, Thailand failed to reach the final this year when the Philippines emerged 4-2 winners in the penalty shootouts after both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of extra time.
After a keenly contested first half, Thailand took the lead through Jiraporn Mongkoldee in the 53rd minute before the Philippines replied with a Jael-Marie Guy’s penalty in the 87th minute.
With no goals scored in extra time, Guy missed the first shot for the Philippines before Thailand converted the next two kicks through Jiraporn and Taneekarn Dangda.
However, a miss from Thailand’s Pluemjai Sontisawat gave the initiative to the Philippines as they took advantage with another miss from Orapin Waenngoen for the win.
The rest of the penalty kicks for the Philippines were converted by Alessandrea Casimere Carpio, Sara Kristine Bantan Eggesvik and Hali Moriah Candido Long.
On Wednesday, it will be the Philippines’ first-ever appearance in the final of Women’s Football at the SEA Games.

In the meantime at the IPE Stadium, Vietnam had an easier semifinal tie when they dominated Indonesia 5-0.
Nguyễn Thị Bích Thùy (28th minute penalty and 80th) and Phạm Hải Yến (49th and 58th) were on a brace each to be followed by another from Huỳnh Như (86th) to ensure Vietnam’s aspiration to win their fifth gold medals in a row is on track.
Vietnam were the previous winners in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023.
