ALOR STAR (4 May 2019) – Kedah hammered Kuala Lumpur for a thumping 5-2 win which saw the Red Eagles soar to third place in the 12-team Malaysian Super League with 19 points from 12 matches.
While Kedah celebrated the goal feast at the Darulaman Stadium in Alor Setar on Friday, it was a nightmare for KL goalkeeper, former international Sharbinee Allawee who had to pick the ball from the back of his net as early as the 22nd minute.
Kedah’s twin foreign strikers – Argentina’s Jonatan Bauman and Spain’s Fernando Rodriguez – helped themselves to a brace each while Singapore international Shakir Hamzah netted the other.
Bauman opened the floodgates when he finished off a through ball from Renan Alves in the 22nd minute. The Argentine then had to wait till the last minute of play for his second on the night he plundered a long ball from Baddrol Bakhtiar.
Spaniard Rodriguez took his personal tally to six with a header on 67 minutes and a well-executed strike in the 80th minute. In between Shakir got his goal in the 42nd minute.
Kuala Lumpur’s got their goals through former Malaysian international Indra Putra Mahayuddin and Guilherme De Paula in the 45th and 77th minutes respectively.
At the Shah Alam Stadium, it was a 3-3 draw between PKNS FC and Perak with Liberian hitman, Kpah Sherman, opening accounts after four minutes of play and adding another in the 51st minute after Nicholas Swirad scored on 42 minutes.
Perak scorers were Brendan Gan (11th), J. Partiban (49th) and Nazirul Naim in the 80th minute.
Five-time champions Johor Darul Takzim lead the table standings with 27 points after 11 matches – two more than second-placed Pahang.
