KEDIRI (24 June 2025) – Former Malaysia head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has been appointed as the new head coach of Indonesia Liga 1 side Persik Kediri.
After helping another Indonesian Liga 1 side, Persis Solo, from being relegated last season, the 54-year-old tactician has been taken on by Persik Kediri for the new 2025/2026 Indonesia Liga 1 season that will start in early August.
“At the moment, we are in the phase of planning insofar as the framework for the new season is concerned. We have to discuss with him the composition and the structure of the team as well as the target for next season,” said Muhammad Syahid Nur Ichsan, Persik Team Manager.
“We took Kim Swee due to several factors. His ability to provide the turnaround for the Persis Solo team last season was our consideration. His introduction to Indonesian football is also a plus point. So we are sure that coach Kim Swee has already understood the culture here and does not need to adapt.”
Last season, Persik Kediri was handled by Brazilian Marcelo Rospide; the team’s performance was inconsistent, from the top four at the start of the season to not winning a single game in 11 matches in a row.
