SINGAPORE (6 April 2025) – Buriram United FC will take a 3-1 lead into the second leg of their ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™ semi-final against fellow Thai League 1 outfit BG Pathum United FC on Wednesday as the teams recommence battle for the remaining berth in the inaugural final.
The clubs will face off at Pathum Thani Stadium aiming to advance to the decider, where the winner will meet Công An Hà Nội FC following the Vietnamese side’s 2-1 aggregate victory over PSM Makassar of Indonesia last week.
Holding a two-goal advantage from the first encounter, Buriram United go into the meeting as favourites to advance although Osmar Loss’ side are continuing to tackle a demanding schedule that has seen the Brazilian and his squad traverse the continent.
Buriram United suffered a 3-0 loss in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Elite to eventual champions Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah last week, but they returned home to clinch a fourth consecutive Thai League 1 title.
A 7-0 thrashing of Nongbua Pitchaya FC ensured Buriram United finished one point clear of Bangkok United FC in the standings, and the team continued their strong form with a 1-0 win over Chanthaburi FC last Saturday to book their place in the semi-finals of the Thai FA Cup.
Those results mean Buriram remain on track for a remarkable quadruple of trophy wins, with Loss’ side also due to take on Nongbua Pitchaya in the League Cup semi-finals later this month.
Standing in their way in the Shopee Cup™ semi-finals will be a BG Pathum United side that has endured an inconsistent run since the teams met in the first leg in Buriram.
Anthony Hudson’s team drew 4-4 in their final Thai League 1 match of the season against Sukothai FC on 27 April, a result that confirmed them as third place finishers in the league, 17 points behind Buriram United.
BG Pathum United, who will also take on Buriram United in the semi-finals of the Thai FA Cup on 10 May, have the advantage of not playing since and the Rabbits will be well-rested ahead of the second leg.
Supachai Chaided gave Buriram United the lead in the first leg and, while Ilhan Fandi equalised for the visitors after the interval, Pansa Hemviboon and Guilherme Bissoli struck to earn their side a two-goal cushion ahead of the return.
At stake will be a place in the two-legged final against Công An Hà Nội, who will host the first leg of the decider in Hanoi on 14 May before the return fixture in Thailand one week later.
The Shopee Cup™ semi-final second leg match will be broadcast LIVE on the domestic television networks and streaming platforms listed below.
