VIENTIANE (24 Aug 2015) – Three goals in the first half steered Cambodia to a crucial 5-1 win over Brunei for their first win in the AFF Under-19 Championship at the National Sports Complex Stadium here today.
With today’s result, Cambodia now have four points following their draw against hosts Laos two days ago. They currently top Group A but this could well change after Laos takes on favourites Thailand in the second match later today.
Sath Rosib was on fire in the first half when he delivered the first two goals, in the ninth and 39th minutes. He struck the first after turning in a neat cross from Son Vandeth. Son would later turn out to be a pain in Brunei’s side as he continuously attacked form the left.
Sath doubled the score a few minutes from the end when he picked up a low pass from Pum Darang on the right. Sath, with his back to the goal, confidently collected the ball, turned and left loose a powerful left-footed shot that ripped into the Brunei goal.
A minute later, the menacing Son spotted the keeper somewhat out-of-position and slammed his freekick into the bottom left corner.
Five minutes into the second half, Cambodia added a fourth Chin Vannak drove in a shot from the left. Brunei managed to tightened up their game slowed down the speedy opponents. Cambodia did not relent and managed to sneak a fifth through Touch Roma in the 74thminute. Minutes from the end Brunei were awarded a penalty which skipper Mohammad Akif Roslan converted.
