PHU THO (10 August 2025) – Australia ignited their challenge for a place in the semi-finals of the ASEAN Women’s MSIG Serenity Cup™ 2025 on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over defending champions the Philippines, while Win Theingi Tun’s hat-trick earned Myanmar a 3-0 win over Timor-Leste.
Alana Jancevski’s goal in first-half stoppage time at Việt Trì Stadium secured a win for Joseph Palatsides’ side that keeps Australian hopes of a place in the Knockout Stage alive as they pulled level on three points with the Philippines in Group B.
Myanmar lead the standings with six points after their second win in a row, which came as a result of Win Theingi Tun’s prowess in front of goal.
Timor-Leste managed to hold out in the opening 44 minutes before San Thaw Thaw burst down the left to deliver a pin-point cross towards the edge of the six-yard box that Win Theingi Tun headed home.
The forward struck again in the 55th minute, showing fine individual skill to bend a right-foot shot into the top corner of the Timor-Leste goal.
Win Theingi Tun completed her hat-trick with a 62nd minute penalty, stroking the ball confidently past Gorette de Deus after she had been upended in the box by Tasia Canizio to ensure Myanmar picked up all three points.
The Australians secured their first win of the campaign against the reigning champions, with Jancevski’s goal keeping her side in contention for a place in the last four.
The win was a deserved reward for an Australian team that had dominated possession but struggled to find a way through a well-drilled Philippines defence.
A scrappy first half burst into life in the 21st minute when Jancevski received the ball with her back to goal 35 yards out. The 22-year-old turned to fire a vicious shot towards the bottom corner of the goal that Olivia McDaniel clawed to safety while at full stretch.
A minute into injury time, however, the Australians prevailed, Jancevski picking the ball up on the right side before cutting across the path of Azumi Oka and bending a low left-footed shot into the opposite corner of the goal.
The winners of the MSIG Player of the Match award for today’s games are:
Timor-Leste v: Myanmar: Win Theingi Tun (#7), Myanmar
