AFF Convenes 1st Council Meeting for the 2022-2026 Term
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) convened its 1st Council Meeting for the 2022–2026 term on Monday, 14 November 2022. The meeting was chaired by AFF President Major General Khiev Sameth and held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Major General Khiev Sameth opened the meeting by warmly welcoming all newly elected Council Members. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Member Associations for placing their trust in the new Council to continue building on the Federation’s achievements over the next four years.
In his remarks, the President emphasised the importance of responsible and diligent leadership, urging Council Members to always act in the best interests of both the AFF and its Member Associations.
The Council also took the opportunity to extend its best wishes to the Thailand Women’s National Team ahead of their upcoming playoff matches for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and to the Australia Men’s National Team as they prepared for their participation in the FIFA World Cup.
As part of the meeting agenda, the following candidates for the FIFA Council were invited to present their candidacies to the AFF Council:
- Kohzo Tashima (Japan)
- Du Zhaocai (China)
- Mong Gyu Chung (Korea)
- Liu Shyh Fang (Chinese Taipei)
- Yasser H. Almisehal (Saudi Arabia)
Additionally, three candidates from the ASEAN region were also vying for seats on the FIFA Council:
- Datuk Haji Hamidin Bin Haji Mohd Amin (Malaysia)
- Mariano Araneta (Philippines)
- Kanya Keomany (Laos)
The meeting marked the beginning of a new term of leadership and collaboration for the AFF as it continues to strengthen the development and representation of ASEAN football on the global stage.
