MANILA (5 August 2012) – Other than the absence of a handful of their European-based players, the Philippines national team will also begin their tour of the United States this week with the non-participation of the talismanic Younghusband brothers – Phil and James.
Other than the training camp, the Philippines team will play against the Chicago Inferno at the Wheaton’s Joe Bean stadium on 11 August before taking on the US Virgin Islands’ Dashing Eagle six days later.
“For the close to two years that I’ve been with them (the Younghusband brothers), they have done so much,” said Michael Weiss, the chief coach of the Philippines said. “Before you make a harsh decision (of whether to drop them altogether for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012), you weigh all the options.
“Anyway, with the absence of the several stalwarts, it will allow the other players the chance to have a shot for a place in the national team.”
