PSSI KEEN ON 2022 FIFA WORLD CUP HOSTING JOB

JAKARTA (29 Jan 2009) – The Indonesia FA (PSSI) are keen to make a bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“This seems like only a dream for us now, but we must dare to dream big. Otherwise we would realize nothing,” said Nugroha Besoes, the general secretary of the PSSI to official Indonesian news agency Antara.

“This is part of the PSSI’s long-term planning (to host the World Cup).

“Football is the most popular event in Indonesia, where its television rating beats everything else.”

Indonesia join the likes of Japan, Qatar, England, Russia, Spain-Portugal, and the Netherlands-Belgium(both joint bids) for officially confirming their intention to host either the 2018 or 2022 event.

One of FIFA’s requirements is that potential hosts should be capable of providing around 12 stadiums each holding at least 40,000 fans.

“Ten years are enough for us to build, renovate or expand our stadiums to meet the requirement,” added Nugraha.
