AFF WOMEN’S: Souchitta Double Saves Laos the Blushes

YANGON (12 Sept 2013) – There is no shame in defeat for the Indonesian women’s football team. In spite of the 2-1 loss they conceded in the second match day in Group B of the AFF Aya Bank Women’s Championship 2013, the Indonesian girls certainly showed that they have a lot of spunk.

The defeat was Indonesia’s second in as many matches and will certainly spell their exit from the competition even though they still have matches against Myanmar and then Japan.

“We were told that we will be taking part in this competition just a few days before our departure to Yangon,” said Abdul Sadat (left in lower pix), the team manager of Indonesia. “As you know, we are actually a Futsal team but in spite of the difficulties, I thought that we played quite well. The only thing is that my players can’t last the full 90 minutes but they gave their best and that was important.”

And seasoned campaigner like Laos were certainly given a run for their money as Indonesia played to their strength which was quick counter-attacks. Tried as hard as Laos could muster in the first half but the best they could conjure was an eighth minute effort from Souchitta that was denied by Indonesian keeper Deliana Fatmawati.

With Viengkhone Chanthamala hitting the crossbar, Indonesia capitalised on their speedy midfield for Tugiyati to run in from the right before slipping in the ball past Laos keeper Bounyong Akkhavong.

Trailing at the break, Laos pushed harder into the Indonesian box and just seven minutes in, Indonesia showed their inexperience when they conceded a penalty after Souchitta was brought down by Sri Yulianti.

Souchitta did not disappoint to give Laos the lead.

As the match wore on, it was taking its toll on the Indonesian girls and just one moment of hesitance allowed Souchitta to rifle in the shot from some 25metres out as Deliana struggled to keep it out.
