WE WILL ADAPT AGAINST VIETNAM: REID

BANGKOK (23 Dec 2008) – Peter Reid, the head coach for Thailand, is not too bothered about what Vietnam will have planned for their clash tomorrow night where he feels that whatever is thrown at them, the Thais will adapt to the prevailing condition.

Thailand will take on a resilient Vietnam side in the first leg final of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 at the Stadium Rajamangala with the hope that they can do enough for them to bring to Hanoi for the return leg in four days.

Speaking at the pre-match Press Conference this afternoon at the Radisson Hotel, Reid said that while he knows Vietnam will rely on their quick counter-attack, he is more concerned with the Thai game.

"It will be a difficult game against Vietnam and it will be a tough final for us," said Reid.

"I watched the two games Vietnam played against Singapore and I'm sure that they will rely on counter-attacks as they had done against us in Hanoi (in a friendly) and in Phuket (in the group stage of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008).

"But I'm sure we will adapt to their game where we try to be offensive and play in the optimum. We will try to play positive and not dwell too much on the Vietnam game."

Reid is also taking a pragmatic stance on the game against Vietnam where he said that whatever happens in the match tomorrow, he knows that the tie is far from over.

He added that while he hopes Thailand can carve out a comfortable margin, the return leg will be another 90 minutes.

"Just look at how things turn out for Singapore. Everybody thought that Singapore will make the final but Vietnam played very well in the return leg and they beat the defending champions. As far as, I'm concerned the final whistle is in Hanoi," he added.

Apart from the suspension on Suchao Nutnum due to two yellow cards, Thailand will also have to reconsider the position of Nattaphong Samana, who is struggling with a groin and calf injury.

But the return of Sutee Suksomkit, from a hamstring problem, has given Reid at least some measure of confidence.

"It is a great honour that the new Thailand Prime Minister (Abhisit Vechacheeva) will come for the game. And I also would like to thank the Thai fans in the last game who were patient and knowledgeable when we were a goal down. Their support was a big help to the team," added Reid.
